A. G. Russell™ Survivalist® Sting
As we enter the 35th year of The Survivalist book series, LANCER and A.G. Russell Knives have collaborated to offer a special Survivalist Sting as a tribute to Jerry Ahern and the main character of the series, John Thomas Rourke, who carried his Sting 1A inside his waistband. While Rourke’s knife was a Black Chrome Sting 1A, this special tribute knife has been updated to A.G. Russell’s current model. The Survivalist Sting is being introduced in book #33 of THE SURVIVALIST series, Deep Star.
This is an adaptation of a classic boot knife that A.G. Russell designed and first offered in 1977. Many of their customers, who bought the original Sting in the 1970s, told A.G. that it was a great hunting knife because when one edge got dull, you just turned the knife over for a new edge. This redesigned version will do that equally well.
The entire knife including blade, tang, guard and pommel is drop forged from German 440C at 57-59 Rc. The 3-1/2″ double edge blade is hollow ground. The handle scales are green G10 which are marked with the JTR, John Thomas Rourke, brand.
The obverse side of the blade is marked A.G. Russell – 2014 – Rogers, Ark. The reverse side is marked 440C – Taiwan – The Survivalist. It measures 7-1/8″ overall and weighs only 3.9 oz. The boot style sheath is leather (also marked with the JTR brand) with a spring steel boot/belt clip. Made in Taiwan.
